Access Niksic 2015

Memorial Day

Access Program students learnt a lot about Memorial Day from their guests from the U.S. army Office of Defense Cooperation Bilateral Affairs Officer Major Peter Carter, Major Paul Bosse and Captain Nic. They explained the origin and the essence of celebrating this specific holiday. They talked about the ceremony of putting flags on the graves of the soldiers. They also mentioned the tomb of the Unknown and talked about the ceremony of putting flowers on this tomb on Memorial day. Guests also spoke about the Montenegrin soldiers who fought in the U.S. They told the story about a Montenegrin who was so brave in the battle that the U.S. Army spent 18 years in trying to find his mother to give her a medal for her son’s service.
