The 3rd International / 8th National Conference for English Language Teaching Professionals – ELTAM Days 2022

The 3rd International / 8th National Conference for English Language Teaching Professionals – ELTAM Days 2022 was held on May 7 and 8, 2022 as a hybrid conference at the Faculty of Philology in Niksic and online via Microsoft Teams platform. The title of the conference was Integrating Global Issues in English / Foreign Language Teaching. It gathered 158 language teaching professionals from all levels and different institutions: 136 Montenegrin participants, 3 Montenegrin speakers, 17 international participants or speakers and 2 guests.

The participants of the conference were welcomed by Ms. Dragana Radoman, President of the English Language Teachers’ Association of Montenegro, Mr. Kevin McCaughey, the Regional English Language Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade and Mr. Igor Lakic, the Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Nikšić.

Conference participants enjoyed and learned from remarkable plenary speakers. Mr. Jonas Erin from the European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML) talked about a global approach to plurilingual and intercultural education. Mr. Kevin McCaughey, the Regional English Language Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade, examined the trajectory of English as a global language and how the pandemic, evolving technology, and the cost and consequences of disinformation are changing the way we teach and learn. Ms. Ania Kolbuszewska from Pearson discussed what awaits mainstream education in the near and not-so-near future and looked at trends which the pandemic has brought into focus as well as changes education in the next 30 years is going to face. The fourth plenary speaker was Ms. Marija Mijuskovic from the University of Montenegro whose focus was on integrating language skills into peer teaching, using the example of a workshop approach to teaching language skills.

Apart from plenary sessions, teachers had the possibility to choose between numerous workshops, talks and demo classes. There were 15 workshops, 16 talks and 3 demo classes.

Regional English Language Office from Belgrade, the U.S. Embassy in Podgorica, American Corner Podgorica, Pearson Belgrade, Strana Knjiga Niksic, Educational Centre Podgorica, Skola Stranih Jezika Waves Budva, British Council, Agencija za zaštitu životne sredine and ELTAM provided presents for the participants.
