Democracy and Parliament

On February 28, 2020 Students visited the Parliament of Montenegro and participated in Democracy workshops “Barbara Pramer” on the topic of Democracy and Parliament.
The purpose of the activities was to develop students’ knowledge about political systems of the U.S. and Montenegro with focus on democracy and civil society and to introduce the building of the Parliament of Montenegro.
During the first part of the workshop students worked in three groups, each group with one of the trainers of Democracy workshops of the Parliament. Students discussed about three different segments of political system in Montenegro: one group about laws, the other one about election process and the third one about active citizenship. Students also prepared questions for their guest, Mr. Lewis Gitter, Head of political and economic section of the U.S. Embassy Podgorica.
During the second part of the workshop Mr. Gitter talked to the students, explaining them the political system in the U.S. and answering their questions.
During the third part of the workshop students worked on their articles for newspapers as the final product of the workshop. They wrote about the differences between American and Montenegrin political systems and about the things they did in their own community as Access Program students to develop democracy and civil society.
After finishing their work on the newspapers students had a tour through the Parliament while the trainers explained them the things they saw.
