Baseball

Mr. Scott Parish, Political and Economic Chief at the U.S. Embassy in Podgorica discussed with Access students one of the most popular sports in America – baseball. As baseball is an indispensable part of American life and identity, this was a great opportunity to learn something from the first hand about origin of this game, connections with American cultural values, skills one can acquire in baseball and many other things. As they got deeper in discussion, students could see that baseball is not just a game or sport but something more than that – it’s a way of life woven into language , culture, family tradition…Through discussion they found out how to use baseball vocabulary in everyday conversation, how to play baseball, how to become more skillful with this sport. The guest did his best to bring the subject to the students as much as possible bringing even baseball hats, bats, gloves, balls which was a great experience for everybody.
It wasn’t difficult to conclude why millions of people appreciate baseball so much, especially if we take into consideration Walt Whitman’s words: ‘’Baseball is our game, the American game. I connect it to our national character.’’
