Memorial Day

This lesson was dedicated to Memorial Day, one of America’s most significant holidays. It was a great honor and pleasure to welcome and host Mr. Allan Gryskewicz, Defense Attaché, Lieutenant Colonel in U.S. Army and Ms. Jelena Vojnić from Public Affairs Office at the U.S. Embassy Podgorica who brought the significance and the spirit of this holiday closer to Access students and teachers. Both guests joined via Zoom application.

Mr. Allan explained students why Memorial Day is such an important federal holiday, talking about its traditions and adding a personal note to his talk. Working in groups students discussed with Mr. Allan about history, observance and significance of this holiday and therefore acknowledged values that American people cherish regarding those who sacrificed lives for their country. Students also summed up their impressions with the aim of comparing their own country values to the U.S. values. They created an outline of a soldier and decorated it with post-it notes on which they wrote words or phrases that embodied the values of the Memorial Day.
