Black History Month

In this session, Access Cetinje students had a fruitful discussion about Black History Month with Mr. Hansley Cazeau, English Language Fellow with the U.S. Department of State. They had a great opportunity to recognize the significance, history and impact of Black History Month, discuss about the moments in history that led to the creation of Civil Rights Movement and privileges based on inequality. Apart from tackling the issues related to Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, they talked about contributions of African Americans in sport, the arts and other important fields. They were also informed about the things they were concerned about in an open and constructive way, making the discussion beneficial and productive. Students got the insight into how African Americans were segregated and discriminated and they also had a chance to compare the position of African Americans in the past and today by watching the videos showing unfair treatment of African American people. Moreover, students could imagine themselves in the situation and circumstances of a teenage boy Kaleif Browder where they could compare their lives with his and see all the bad sides of being discriminated.
