European Day of Languages – Cultural and Language diversity

A special birthday was celebrated in Access family – EDL’s 20th Anniversary of culture and language diversity. Students had a special guest to make this day memorable – Ms. Nicole Gallagher, Public Affairs Officer at the U.S Embassy Podgorica. Ms. Gallagher introduced the topic pointing out the importance of cultural and linguistic diversity and giving an example of W. Whitman’s poem ‘Song of myself’ as it draws all different kinds of people into itself and forges them into unity. The discussion was developed in groups where they discussed different aspects of culture and languages. And what kind of birthday would it be if there wasn’t a birthday cake – s’mores. Despite the cloudy weather that was promising only rain and thunders, they managed to make a campfire and make a traditional American treat with original marshmallows, chocolate, and crackers our guest brought. In the end, students sent messages for EDL’s birthday that they shouldn’t let languages go extinct but have great language development in the future with many more years to celebrate.
