Hispanic Heritage Month

During Hispanic Heritage Month Access students were privileged to host Mr. Kenneth Mora, Office of Building Constructions at the U.S. Embassy Podgorica, and discuss Latin American Culture and heritage. The discussion was sparkled by students’ ideas of what they had already known about the topic and got deeper while discussing with the guest characteristics of this culture, the position of Hispanic Americans in the U.S., activities done to honour Hispanic Heritage Month… The range of topics they covered was pretty wide and the subtopics were thought-provoking. Thus, they had a chance to discuss literature, art, sport, dance, music, food and become more familiar with people who had great impact not just on American society but on the whole world. Nobel Prize winners Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Pablo Neruda, Rita Moreno-the actress, Cezar Chavez- the civil rights leader, Frida Kahlo- the artist, Oscar de la Hoya – the boxer who won a gold medal for the U.S. in the 1992 Summer Olympic Games, the general Simon Bolivar were just some of the names being celebrated this month. Highly motivated by the discussion, students prepared a quiz, association games and even performed different types of dance to the Latin music for others to guess. They had lots of fun!!! Thanks to the guest, Mr. Mora, who gave his best to bring the topic close to students, they became more familiar with Hispanic culture and its incredible contributions to the U.S.
