Human Rights Day

Access community was privileged to have as a guest Mr. Eric Geary, Program Manager at Office of Defence Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy Podgorica. The topic was Human Rights Day. Mr. Geary effectively triggered students’ imagination by posing various questions on the role of government in protecting human rights and human right activism. Through questions that directly concern human rights and their violations, students were encouraged to express their opinions without being offered the right answer. The possibility of finding a middle ground was self-imposed, as was the possibility of resolving opposing views through discussion and debate, thus providing a great showcase of decision-making in a democratic society. Mr. Geary provided a set of quotes to remind students on people who fought for the rights we enjoy today. By working in groups on different including current human rights issues, Covid-19, corruption, and gender-based violence, the guest had the opportunity to involve students in exploring the topic of Human rights. The guest especially liked the passion that students have shown while discussing this topic, encouraging them to keep being passionate and unbiased, which will help them change the world for the better.
